Description

In May 1969, the Underground Festival at the Sportpalast in Cologne promises to be a spectacular event, but as soon as the first posters appear, the scandal begins… The term »Krautrock« was coined to describe the music of the West German subculture of the 1970s as it became internationally popular. 189 selected concert posters illustrate the concentrated power of this eventful decade.

Gerd Siekmann, born in Unna in 1959, experienced his first ‘Krautrock’ concert with the Berlin band Birth Control in 1972. From 1998 to 2005 he was the operator of POPDOM in Cologne, a museum of Design, Everyday Life and Youth Culture of the 1960s and 1970s. For over three decades, he has been a freelance collector, curator and lender in the field of culture. In 2020 he launched this web shop for concert posters.

Sebastian Köpcke was born in Berlin in 1967. Together with his mother and brother, he experienced the Cologne band Floh de Cologne in 1973 at the World Youth Festival in East Berlin, capital of the GDR. Since 1990 he has been working as a freelance graphic artist, photographer, author and exhibition organiser.
